BYRON McCAMMON, JR.
Byron McCammon, Jr., 81, 835 McAfee Lane, Salvisa, formerly of South Whitley, Indiana, husband of Bernice Duewer McCammon, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born August 25, 1922 in Sullivan County, Indiana, he was the son of the late Byron McCammon, Sr. and Geneva Carty McCammon.
He was a graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne, IN, where he was a standout football player and subsequently attended Shurtleff College in Alton, Ill., he was a US Marine Veteran of WW II and the Korean War, a self-employed farmer, auto worker, and builder, a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Huntington, Indiana and later a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Danville, where he served as co-treasurer.
Survivors besides his wife, include two sons, Harry Lee and his wife Ivy McCammon, Bloomington, IN and John Marvin and his wife Holly McCammon, Nashville, TN; two daughters, Carol Ann and her husband Bruce Waterman, Indianapolis and Barbara Jean and her husband Moyne Metzger, Nicholasville; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister Melba Rose Harshbarger.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, November 13 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 285 Hill-N-Dale Drive, Danville by David Whitten.
Pallbearers will be Kurt Cooper, Mike Cooper, Charles Criswell, Kelly Wischmeier, Ryan McCammon, Rachelle McCammon, Scott Waterman, Lisa Waterman, Neil Metzger, Seth McCammon, and Hadley McCammon.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 pm Wednesday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel and Thursday after 9:00 am at the Church.
Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity, POB 66, Harrodsburg or to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund.
