Obituary of Charles Preston Crews

Charlie Crews, age 97, Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Born December 28, 1912 in Harrodsburg, KY, he was the son of the late Wilkes Morgan and Edna Lyen (Sharp) Crews. He was a horse trainer for Calumet, Castlemon, & retired from Shawnee Farms and a member of the Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church. Charlie served this country during World War II in the Army, he was a member of the 34th Division which was the first unit deployed to Europe, he served 46 months overseas. He received several awards and medals, one being the Purple Heart. Charlie was also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion. Survivors include two Nieces, Nancy Crews Parriott Dougan of Winona Lake, IN; and Helen Jacqueline Lawson of FL. He was preceded in death by three brothers Albert Jennings Crews, Roy Davis Crews, John Wilkes Crews and a sister: Nantie Belle Crews Parriott. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 20 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Kenneth Whitehouse. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Pallbearers are: Eddie Long, Polie Stratton, Danny White, Ray Hawthorn, David Gilspie, Tony Pinkston and James Tewmey. Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church Members are Honorary Pallbearers Visitation will be Friday, February 19; 5 - 8 PM at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY. Memorial contributions may be sent to Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.
