Our sincere condolences to the entire family in the loss of this great man. Larry was one of a kind and was indeed a generous soul. My father knew him as a colleague for many years, but more importantly as a friend -- his eyes lit up whenever his friend "L.T." was mentioned. My memories of Larry and the family go back to our days in Maryland and continue to just a few weeks ago when we spoke a couple of times by telephone and he sent me an office picture of he & my father, both dapper and full of elegance. I will miss our conversations and his bright laughter which never failed to cheer me. Thank you and Godspeed, Larry.

Larry was a great friend, shipmate & survivor with me after the sinking of our Destroyer, the USS HOEL, DD533 in Letye Gulf in the Pacific Oct 25., 1945. So very sorry for Larry's family, Lucille & the girls. Larry called me about 2 weeks ago relaying how the J-Hoel Reunion went in October. I missed the last two reunions due to illnesses but loved the guys & missed seeing the crew. He will be dearly missed by me & everyone who loved him. Hopefully we will all get together soon..... George.

Our good friend, Larry, will be deeply missed. He represents an example of a good life well lived. speaking for myself and my family as well as for the USS Johnston/USS Hoel Survivors Association, deep condolences and respect are offered to the family of a very good man. Larry's departure will leave a big vacancy at the table, but ensures a very warm welcome by his awaiting fellow shipmates and family members.

Lucille and family members,
I am saddened by the news that Larry passed away. I worked for Larry when he was the HR Director for the Army Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe in the mid-70s. He was a fine man and a great leader. I learned many valuable nuggets from him about taking care of people, knowing what you are talking about, ethics, and earning the respect of those in your charge as well as your supervisors (mostly through hard work and good solid advice.) Even though he worked for a bureaucracy, I never thought of him as a bureaucrat, but as a respected leader.
Just a little side note - for the past 20-30 years, the first Christmas card Jane and I received was always (no exceptions) from Larry.
My sincere condolences to you Lucille and to all family members and friends.

To the family: We were so shocked to hear about Larry. I met him after my dad (Sam McCorkle) moved into McDowell Place. My dad was so happy to see a familiar face when he moved in. He & Larry had been at the Wellness Center for years and had become friends there. With Larry's hospitality he was instrumental in making my dad feel more at home at McDowell place ... they shared meals together in the dining room, went to the Wellness Center a few times and i know had some good conversations about the Navy. I enjoyed Larry's friendship over these months when I visited my dad. I planned Larry and his brother's air travel for the Navy reunion in October. We will certainly miss him. Prayers and blessings to Lucille and all of you for comfort and peace. I know you have a life full of sweet and special memories that will help you these next days and into the future.
Ellen Downey and my dad Sam McCorkle
