Wow, what a man! This was my best teacher and friend at Rose Hill Elem. He sometimes picked me up at the bus stop and I never minded waiting around till he was ready so I could ride in that White Bonneville 2+2! He even let me drive it one day! He gave me a reason to study and believe in myself. I will always miss you Jerry, Rest In Peace my Friend.

Mr. Kays always had a kind word of encouragement. He was more than a teacher; he was a role model, mentor and a true example of a great educator. I'm sorry for your loss; know that he touched many lives in a positive way. May God give each of you the strength to get through such a sad time.

Mr. Kays was always an example of what an Educator should be. Always had the time for life lessons not just classroom lessons. There are many of us that owe a great level of our success in life from the simple words of wisdom, encouragement, and advice provided by this great man. Prayers for the family during this time.

Amy, I too have lived through the nightmare you are now going through, I lost my dad 35 years ago this February. There is still not one day that I don't think of him, but I can breath instead of it smothering at the thought of him now, smile instead of crying. My life has never been the same, but I cherish that I had him in my life. Time will ease the hurt and your heart will carry the scar forever.... until you see him again! When I think of your Dad, I remember he always had a smile, and that mischievous twinkle in his sparkling blue eyes that became much brighter when he became the father of his little princess..
Please know that I am carrying you and your family in my deepest heart, thought and prayers, may God send his angels to build a circle of protection and comfort around you and your family..Amen

I was so sorry to hear about Jerry's passing. Most of the family probably does not know this, but when I was young, Jerry and I gave each other nicknames..he was Brother Ugly and I was Sister Ugly. Not only did he teach me how to swim, he always made himself available at the City Pool to talk to us kids about anything. We use to tease each other a lot after the Mercer vs Harrodsburg games depending on who won...and yes he even made me cry a couple of times. But I really loved this man. He has worn many hats in this community that will be missed by many. So until we meet again, rest in peace Brother Ugly.

My heart is breaking over Mr. Kays' passing, though I know he's in a wonderful place. I still remember his teaching style in my 8th grade history class.....he made learning all those facts fun and to this day, I love history. I enjoyed when he participated in the gospel group many years ago. He had an ability to make people smile. My prayers go out to all the family in this time of loss.

My deepest condolences to the Kay's family... Jerry was the first Middle Principle I had. He was a character and a mentor whom I had great respect for. He and I had a great love of history, athletics and people. I for one will miss him terribly as I know your family will. May Jerry rest in peace and may your family be comforted during your time of sadness. God bless you all.
