Obituary of Mary Smith Burton

Mary Burton, 94, Harrodsburg, widow of Hunter Burton, died Thursday, February 9, 2017, at The Willows at Harrodsburg. Born March 6, 1922, in Bath County, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Estella (Corbin) Smith. She owned and operated the Harrodsburg Dish Barn for 51 years, served on the Harrodsburg Board of Education for 12 years and on the Haggin Memorial Hospital Board for 38 years. Mary was a longtime member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and was a member of the Progressive Homemakers Club. She was a graduate of the Univ. of KY and had served as Mercer Co. Extension Agent for a number of years. Survivors include: three daughters, Mary Sue (David) Burton Duhe of San Clemente, CA, Ann Hunter (Terry Sutherland) Burton of Harrodsburg, and Louise (Harry) Burton Bush of Lexington; one son, Ed (Pam) Burton of Venice, FL; one sister, Dortha Oatts of Lexington; one brother, Hissel Smith of Bethel, KY; four grandchildren, Alyssa Duhe, Hunter Burton, Michelle Oakley, and Takken Bush. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Noah Burton, and a brother, Richard Smith. Funeral services 2 PM Monday, February 13, 2017, by Don Chase and Gaye Haralu, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be Monday from12 Noon until the hour of service at the church. Arrangements by Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
