Obituary of Larry Dale Wilson

Larry Dale Wilson, 73, of Irvine, Kentucky passed away on May 3, 2023, at the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond, KY, after a long hard fought battle with Cancer. He was the beloved husband of Jannie Lee (Godby) Wilson, whom he married on April 11, 1982. Larry was born in Mckinney, KY, at home, on January 15, 1950. He was the son of the late Webster Lee “Web” and Permelia Rebecca “Pam” (Fletcher) Wilson, of Harrodsburg. Larry was a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church of Harrodsburg. Larry was an all star football, basketball, and baseball player for Harrodsburg High School, and attended Middle Tennessee State on a baseball scholarship, before getting drafted into the Army National Guard. He attended basic training, and was stationed at Fort Campbell, in Campbellsville, KY. Larry worked as a signal maintainer for Norfolk Southern Railway and retired after 20+ years, as well as owning a successful construction company, Larry Wilson Excavating, for many years. In his downtime Larry loved grilling a big steak marinated in Michelob Light, playing softball, and woodworking. Larry never met a stranger…literally…and was liked by anyone that ever met him. Most of all, Larry loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family, & friends, beyond measure. Survivors Include: his loving wife, Jannie, of 41 years; sons, Dr. Edward Lee Simpson II, & Wife, Whitney of Culpeper, VA, and Jeremy Lee Simpson, & Wife, Stacie of Irvine, KY; a daughter, Emily Kinard Wilson Rutherford Barczak, & Husband, Matthew, of Towson, MD; seven grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Simpson, Sarah Faith Thompson, Rylee Beth Simpson, Sydney Georgeann “Georgie” Simpson, Eliza Bright Barczak, Gabriel Lewis Simpson, and Alexander Rutherford Barczak; a sister, Dr. Rebecca Jean (Wilson) Martin, and Husband, Terry, of Jeanerette, LA; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his brother David Lee Wilson. There will be a private Celebration of Life on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM at St. Philips Episcopal Church, with Father Peter Doddema officiating. Larry's final wishes are being honored through cremation and will be handled by Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg. Honorary Pallbearer: Edward Keith Kirkpatrick.
