Mary Agnes Hatchel, age 82, of Harrodsburg, widow of Lonnie Dean Hatchel, died Monday, February 19, 2024 at Walker's Trail of Danville, KY. Mary was born October 26, 1941 in Harrodsburg, KY. She is the daughter of the late James and Lena Mae (Hulet) Royalty Sr..
Mary Agnes was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church, a 1959 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, a graduate of Fugazzi Business College, and had attended Kentucky State University. She was a retired Executive Secretary for the Department of Education after 31 years. She served as an Administrative Secretary for The Bureau of Instruction, and Exec. Secretary for the Office of Resource Management, as well as working with the Principal Internship Program in the Division of Teacher Education Certification. Mary Agnes was also a member of the Mercer Co. Roadrunners' Campers and Hikers Association, former member of the National Association of Campers and Hikers, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
As a small child, she grew up in Taylor, MO, where her parents were owners of the Hester General Store. She atended Sudduth School there through the fourth grade. One of her dearest old friends from Taylor was Margaret Ann Bourne, who now lives in Quincy, IL.
Survivors include: one son, Michael (Vickie) Hatchel of Harrodsburg, KY; one brother, James (Kerry) Royalty Jr. of Versailles, KY; one grandchild, Bryce Logan Hatchel; a sister-in-law, Delores Hatchel (Verrel) Clements of Campbellsville, KY; a special friend, Leona Royalty Berg; several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by brother, Jerry Lee Royalty.
The funeral will be held 3:30 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, Harrodsburg, KY with Randy Douglas officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation will be Friday, February 23rd from 1:30 PM until 3:30 PM at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
Pallbearers are Michael and Bryce Hatchel, Randy Douglas, Ed Berg, Ronnie Sims, and Amy Sparks.
Memorials are suggested to the Mercer Co. Animal Shelter, 896 Moberly Rd, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
